Augmented Reality (AR) is a technology that has gotten a lot of interest from the scientific community because of its ability to blend the actual/tangible elements with virtual elements. It is considered as a great tool or a method to visualize context-related data.

The user is provided with computer generated images and videos layered over and registered with the actual world, thereby supplementing it. AR has been extensively explored over several decades, promising intellect augmentation and increased productivity, but it has yet to reach a large audience.

The program’s initial focus would be integrating virtual objects with real time video feeds for augmented reality.

Significant development has already happened in areas critical to the realization of augmented reality on mobile phones. Below are some of the Augmented Reality Components and Features:

  • Tracking – To obtain and deliver associated virtual resources, the system has to know the user’s viewpoint. It needs to know the position and orientation of the system display in a physical coordinate system with a known mapping to a virtual coordinate system. Tracking is the process of establishing location and orientation characteristics.
  • Displays – A mixed-reality AR system must be able to produce both real and virtual content assimilated together seamlessly. As a result, the user must be able to perceive the real environment superimposed with 3D visuals on the display. At interactive frame rates, it should also be trackable.
  • 3D Input – Key features and constraints of 3D input to be discussed.
